With all trial flying lessons, no matter whether they're in an aeroplane or a helicopter, or what length of time they are, the basic layout of the lesson is very much the same.
Upon arrival at the airfield or aerodrome, an expert CAA qualified instructor will welcome you and take you through a full pre-flight briefing of what to expect.
And what does CAA stand for? Well, that means that your instructor is fully qualified and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority, who are the main statutory corporate organisation that oversees and regulates all aspects of civil aviation in the UK. And they are also the organisation from whom, if you decide to pursue further flight training, you will be receiving your PPL (Private Pilot's Licence).
After the briefing, you'll head off with your instructor up into the skies in the aircraft, and depending on how much time there is in your lesson, you'll get to observe the instructor at the controls and have the opportunity to take the controls yourself and learn some basic flying skills - flying straight and level, getting up to altitude etc.
Upon completion of flight, depending on what's included, you might receive a certificate for your flight, a photo pack, or flight training hours that will count towards that needed to obtain your PPL.
